Keira Knightley

Keira Knightley is an English actress. She was born on March 26th, 1985 in Teddlington, England. She is the youngest of two children and daughter of the theatre actor Will Knightley and the writer Sharman Macdonald. When she was a kid, she developed her performing vocation. At the age of four she started taking ballet lessons, and two years later she made her debut in TV. Her persistence and talent were amazing, and soon she obtained her first role in a movie.

In 1994, she made her first steps in the cinema in Moira Armstrong’s movie “A Village Affair”. She continued improving her performing skills and had the opportunity to participate in a Hollywood super production: “Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace”. Her role was limited, but her character Sabй gave her the dreamt popularity. She appeared in several magazines as well as in many presentations of the George Lucas’s masterpiece, and her name started to sound familiar for many directors and producers.
Two years later, she shared the set with Thora Birch during the shooting of the terror movie: “The Hole”.

But the success in her career occurred later in 2002, when she played the leading role in the comedy “Bend it like Backham”. Keira was only 17 when all the press praised her work in the movie. She demonstrated her versatility and impressed the public with her spontaneity. This captivating young star was convoked to take part in the adventures movie “Pirated of the Caribbean”, where she worked together with Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom.

Apart from her appearances in the big screen she also made some performances for TV productions like “Oliver Twist” (1999) and “Doctor Zhivago”. In 2004, she placed the part of Ginebra in “King Arthur”. But the role that helped her to demonstrate her talent and quality as an actress was the one in which she played Elizabeth Bennett in the movie adaptation of Jane Austen’s novel “Pride and Prejudice”(2005). For her outstanding performance, she was nominated for an Oscar award and a Golden Globe, both for the same category: “Best Actress”. She also participated in the following parts of the Disney production “Pirates of the Caribbean”.

For the near future, Knightley is working on several projects. She has signed a contract with Chanel to promote their perfumes in 2007, and she will participate in John Maybury’s “The Edge of Love”, in which she will play a leading role.

Pixie-ish British actress Keira Knightley went from a relative unknown to a blockbuster leading lady after 2002's sleeper soccer flick Bend It Like Beckham caught on with an international audience. Born in Teddington, London, England, in 1985, young Knightley was enticed by the lure of cinema at an early age. Playwright mother Sharman McDonald and actor father Will Knightley were at first reluctant to let their daughter follow them into show business. Although they would accommodate her wish three years later, their strict demand that their daughter study through school holidays and only take jobs that didn't interfere with her education ensured that Keira would keep her priorities straight.

Trained in dance from an early age, Knightley made her film debut when she was 12 in Moira Armstrong's romantic drama A Village Affair. Gradually climbing the credits with subsequent roles in Innocent Lies (1995) and the made-for-TV features Treasure Seekers (1996) and Coming Home (1998), she got her first big break when cast as the decoy queen in the eagerly anticipated Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. Knightley resembled the actual queen (portrayed by Natalie Portman) so much that her mother couldn't distinguish the two and some fans still insist both were portrayed by Portman.

Returning to non-decoy status for the television miniseries Oliver Twist (2000), Knightley stayed with the small screen as Robin Hood's daughter in the 2001 adventure Princess of Thieves. Although audiences would truly begin to take note of her talent in the thriller The Hole that same year, her star-making turn in the sleeper comedy drama Bend It Like Beckham endeared her to audiences everywhere and ultimately served as her breakthrough starring role. Playing the best friend to Parminder K. Nagra, Knightley proved that she could turn what might have been little more than a noteworthy supporting role into a truly spunky, scene-stealing performance.

As Lara Antipova in the 2002 miniseries Doctor Zhivago, Knightley gracefully slipped into a role that was previously made famous by Julie Christie, and the timeless romantic drama proved a hit with U.K. television viewers. With the release of Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, however, the actress was catapulted into an entirely new realm of popularity. Opposite Johnny Depp's truly eccentric portrayal of pirate Jack Sparrow, Knightley charmed as the beautiful young maiden whose blood may hold the key to life for a group of undead pirates.

While King Arthur (2004) and Domino (2005) were high-profile flops, Knightley's status as a movie-star on both sides of the pond was firmly cemented in early 2006 when she was nominated for a Best Actress Oscar for her role in 2005's Pride & Prejudice. 2006 also saw the release of the sequel Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, which was shot back-to-back with the franchise's third entry, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, which was scheduled for release in 2007. In the meantime, Knightley forged ahead on the period drama Silk, opposite Michael Pitt. Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

Cheryl Ann Tweedy

Cheryl Ann Tweedy

Cheryl Ann Tweedy has spent nearly her entire life in the limelight. Born June 30, 1983, in Newcastle upon Tyne, England, Cheryl began her modeling career at the tender age of 6 when she won the prestigious World Star of Future Modeling competition. And she didn’t stop there. In the years that followed, she was named “Best Looking Girl of Newcastle,” “Most Attractive Girl” at the Metro Square, and she starred in a string of popular commercials seen throughout the British Isles.

“Chezza,” as she’s known in the media, won another competition of sorts, at the age of 16, when she beat out thousands of other young women to earn a place at the Royal Ballet Summer School in London. Despite her success as a dancer, Cheryl’s true love was singing and she longed for the opportunity to show off her dazzling vocal prowess.

Luckily, she was given a chance to do just that in 2002, when ITV1 held an open audition for their new reality show, Popstars: The Rivals. “I was working as a waitress at the time,” Cheryl recalls. “I saw Popstars would be about two new bands, so I just thought I’d give an audition a go.”

And it’s a good thing she did. Cheryl’s multitalented skill set blew away the show’s producers. “When I got through all the heats I started to think I could go all the way,” she recalls. And indeed she did. Chezza was the first contestant chosen for the newly formed group Girls Aloud. Joining her in the band were Nadine Coyle, Kimberley Walsh, Nicola Roberts, and Sarah Harding.

The girls easily defeated their male counterparts on Popstars thanks to the huge success of their debut single, “Sound of the Underground.” In fact, the song proved to be so popular that it stayed at the No. 1 spot on the charts for an incredible four weeks.

Encouraged by the song’s success, Girls Aloud headed into the studio once again to record their debut album, Sound of the Underground. Released on May 26, 2003, the disc sold over 320,000 copies worldwide thanks to the hit songs “Girls Allowed” and “Life Got Cold.”

Unfortunately, Cheryl made news for all the wrong reasons later that year when she was convicted of assaulting a toilet attendant at a nightclub in Guilford. Although she was cleared of all charges of racially aggravated assault, Cheryl was found guilty of occasioning actual bodily harm and was sentenced to 120 hours of community service. According to Cheryl, the incident brought her “down to earth.” She says, “It made me realize just how lucky I was to lead the life I do."

Cheryl eventually put the episode behind her and she and Girls Aloud switched their focus to recording What Will the Neighbours Say? Released on November 24, 2004, the ambitious sophomore effort debuted at No. 6 on the U.K. album charts and later achieved platinum certification. Just as importantly, the disc received a mountain of critical praise from publications like The Guardian, which hailed it as being "funny, clever, immediate," and "richly inventive."

Following a successful live tour, the girls headed back into the studio to record their third album. Released on December 5, 2005, Chemistry was a critically praised album, with respected media outlets like The Guardian, NME and Top of the Pops, which included it on their best of year-end album charts. The disc was also equally popular with the group’s loyal fans who made Chemistry Girls Aloud’s third consecutive platinum-selling record.

Girls Aloud hit the charts again in September 2006 with the release of their first greatest hits compilation, The Sound of Girls Aloud. The album debuted at No. 1 on the U.K. charts, and went on to sell an impressive 84,000 copies in its first week.

Cheryl also made headlines of a personal sort in 2006 when she married English footballer Ashley Cole in a lavish ceremony on July 15th. The wedding was financed by OK! magazine, which paid the star couple £1,000,000 to publish pictures of the event. “It went very well,” Cheryl says. “I thought something would go wrong on the day, but all went smoothly and it was a great time. Everyone seemed to have fun after too.”

Despite tabloid controversy, Cheryl Tweedy continued to capture the attention of men everywhere, which is why she made AskMen.com's Top 99 of 2008 list, ranking at No. 18.

Cheryl Cole

At the age of 6, Cheryl Tweedy won the children's "World Star Of Future Modelling" competition. She also other competitions held by Boots, and Mothercare. Cheryl Tweedy was also voted "Best Looking Girl of Newcastle" and "Most Attractive Girl" at the Metro Centre. She also appeared in 2 British Gas adverts as well as adverts for SCS and for Eldon Square.

At the age of 16 Cheryl Tweedy auditioned for the Royal Ballet Summer School in London, where she beat over 9,000 others to secure a place. She performed on Tyne Tees Television "Gimme 5" show where she was looking for sponsors to get into the Royal Ballet School.

Despite securing a place at the Royal Ballet School and getting distinctions for her dancing, Cheryl Tweedy wanted to sing. By the age of 13 Cheryl performed many gigs including Metroland, Sunderland F.C. and in Amsterdam.

Cheryl was working as a waitress when she decided to audition for ITV1's "Popstars: The Rivals". At her first audition, Cheryl sang S Club 7's "Have You Ever". She got the thumbs up from all three judges to go through to the next round of auditions to be held in London.

As the competition entered its "final 10" format, Cheryl Tweedy performed hits including "Still The One", "Nothing Compares To You" and ""Right Here Waiting". She was the first female to be announced as a winner and won her place in the pop group which would shortly be named Girls Aloud.

After three weeks of constant promotion for their single "Sound Of The Underground", the girls were declared the winners of the show as they took the elusive 2002 Christmas Number 1 spot.

Girls Aloud have had two number one hits and, unusually for a talent show band, remain popular. But it nearly fell apart for Cheryl Tweedy in 2003.

During a drunken night out with fellow band-member Nicola Roberts at a Guildford nightclub, she punched a black toilet attendant in the face.

At her ensuing trial, she was cleared of racially aggravated assault, though found guilty of the lesser charge of occasioning actual bodily harm. The judge described her behaviour as "an unpleasant piece of drunken violence".

She was sentenced to 120 hours of community service in her native North East which consisted of sanding benches and working in a care home for people with multiple sclerosis.

The affair "brought me down to earth", she said afterwards." It made me realise just how lucky I was to lead the life I do."

She endured plenty of criticism at the time. Ulrika Jonsson branded her an "arrogant bully" who sets an "abysmal example to young women".

A tabloid spat between the two was born and continues still. But crucially, Cheryl Tweedy's fears that she might be dropped by her fellow band-members and her record company, proved groundless. Three years later, Girls Aloud are still touring successfully despite constant rumours that they're on the verge of splitting.
Cheryl Tweedy also has a long running tabloid fued with welsh singer Charlotte Church. During and interview in 2005, Cheryl Tweedy claimed that Charlotte copied their first Girls Aloud album and their image for her debut in the pop music. A source told The Sun Newspaper: "She says Charlotte has no originality and reckons she is trying to copy the image that made them a chart success."

A furious Charlotte hits back at Tweedy, saying Girls Aloud will never be able to reach her performances as a singer, because “they just don't have the range”.

In a webchat session she explained: "Girls Aloud wouldn't be able to sing 'Crazy Chick' if they possibly tried. They just don't have the range, darling. And when they've sold as many records as me, then they can comment".

Since then the two ladies have taken every opportunity to denounce each other to the tabloids. In June 2006, Cheryl Tweedy commented on Church’s new advert for Walkers crisps saying: “Stuffing her face? Very appropriate.”

Church responded to the Mirror newspaper: “First of all – it was quite funny – but now it’s just pathetic. I’m going to knock her out if I ever see her.”

Cheryl Tweedy has also launched a tabloid attack on Paris Hilton. When asked about Paris’ forthcoming album, Cheryl remarked: “It’s very funny. One of the girls saw her in a film and said she was abysmal, so the album should be interesting.”

“She looks like a Barbie doll. She makes me laugh.” “I don’t think there’s any substance to her.”

In July 2006 Cheryl Tweedy signed a deal worth a reported £200,000 to become the face of Coca-Cola Zero for its UK launch.

On July 15th 2006, Ashley Cole was to became Cheryl Tweedy's footballer husband in a ceremony that was originally due to be a simple, quiet affair, but got the full showbiz treatment partly financed by an OK! magazine photo deal. During the run up to the wedding, Girls Aloud star Cheryl Tweedy urged others to elope rather than plan big weddings. “If you ever get married, run away and do it somewhere else,” Cheryl urged at Alien Autopsy premiere.

“It’s seriously stressful - it’s like another full time job.”

“I’ve hired a wedding planner but all he ever does is call me and ask me to make more decisions. I feel like I’m living with a phone glued to my ear.”

“Right now I’m starting to think I should jack it all in and Ashley and I should run off and elope somewhere.”

“I just want it to be him and me, alone on a beach - but I know my mum would kill me if I did.”

In June 2006, Cheryl Tweedy spent the duration of the world cup in Germany chatting to Victoria Beckham about her forthcoming wedding to Ashley Cole. Cheryl revealed recently: “We didn’t shut up - it was wedding this and wedding that. She was like, ‘Your wedding dress, it’s got to be amazing. I’ve seen some fabulous ones.”

Victoria then arranged for her favourite designer Roberto Cavalli to design a £110,000 dress for Cheryl.

Despite her apparent friendship with many of the footballers WAGs in Germany, Cheryl Tweedy called her fellow WAGs vain. Cheryl revealed: “It really annoys me when people try to call me a footballer’s wife.”

“Footballers’ wives have no careers and live off their husbands’ money. You see girls in clubs making a beeline for the footballers and it makes me sick.”

Of her fellow WAGS, Cheryl Tweedy said: “It’s like a comedy. Everyone’s so flash. It’s like, ‘Who’s got the best watch on, who’s got the best bag, which wife is dressed the best, which has got the best hair?’”

“I was in Girls Aloud before I met Ashley and have my own successful career. I’m not going to quit the band and sit around in the sun all day or go shopping with Ashley’s plastic.

“If I’m going shopping I’ll pay with the money I’ve worked hard for. I would die of embarrassment if I had to resort to taking boyfriend’s cards.”

She didn’t include Victoria Beckham in her criticisms: “I love Victoria. She’s just so witty and down to earth. She’s from a girl band and she’s not a typical footballer’s wife . She’s very ambitious, so we have a lot in common. The first time I went to an England match to watch Ashley was just so embarrassing.”

“All the other girls were really glammed up, then I walked in with chipped nail polish and wearing a jumper. I looked terrible. But Victoria was so welcoming. She wasn’t intimidating or starry at all. We had a right laugh together.”

Cheryl Tweedy and Ashley Cole's wedding plans had been changed, with the wedding did Not at swanky Wrotham Park. It emeged that the couple could not legally tie the knot at Wrotham Park, in Hertfordshire, because the venue does not have a wedding licence.

Cheryl and Ashley married on Friday July 14th in a low-key ceremony at the five-star Sopwell House Hotel near St Albans, attended only by family and close friends. The much touted £1million wedding bash, paid for by the glossy mag, was only a blessing. Expected guests David Beckham, Frank Lampard and Rio Ferdinand were among stars who did not go to the "blessing". It later emerged that some guests boycotted the bash in fury at being told attending meant agreeing to be in OK! magazine's coverage.

With all the recent speculation, the public awaits what Cheryl Tweedy's next career move will be.
